There will be no Desk of D.C. Malcolm today, instead it will be this blog post. I've spent the last few days soul searching, and trying to figure out all the mistakes I seem to be making, and trying to fix the damage so I can "save" this book that I've been told many times was a great read.
The last few days, I have been coming up with areas that needed improvement, and hopefully fixed the issues with that. The areas I needed to work on personally were:
My Website My Facebook Presence
My Brand itself
Area's of the book that eventually needs improvement:
-Cover (I've came up with a new cover concept, which will be released with the launch of Dark Jealousy) I apologize to those who have copies of the different versions of the cover,
maybe someday they'll be "rare".
-Blurb, I'm changing the book blurb soon. It will still be written in the first person like the book is, but it will have better readability.
-Authors Bio I'm Updating this as well.
-Categories My book is a historical whodunit, but it's listed under historical mystery, and mystery only. Not in the subgenre it should be in.
Most of these changes won't happen until BOOK TWO comes out. Yes I said it, this has now became a series. With Sheriff Dawson as the Protagonist. There will be AT LEAST a third book. Maybe more, it's undecided yet. When I launch Dark Jealousy, I'll be running a Free promo for Guilty Deceptions kindle version, that way new readers can get the first book as well. Hopefully with any luck with these changes it will make an improvement.
I currently have better paperback sales, then kindle. This tells me something about my readers. You are like me and prefer a physical copy of the book. I'll be promoting Kindle less often and will continuously promote the paperback.
I'm currently looking for more book and reader groups on Facebook, if you know of any please feel free to reach out to me and let me know. The more groups I can be a part of and interact with potential readers the better.
Extra Content For You:
I haven't written them yet, but I plan on writing three short stories, and publishing them into a novella. These short stories will be centered around Guilty Deceptions. The first one focusing on Sheriff Dawson's backstory, the second focusing on the backstory of Patrick Jackson, and the third focusing on the relationship between the victim and the murderer. When I'm done the second draft of Dark Jealousy, I need to take a break as I'm sending it to a beta reader. I'll write the novella then.
I will be writing a stand-alone whodunit short story, set in Victorian times of course. This when it's finished will be offered for free.
Now, the biggest reveal of all. I have changed the cover for Dark Jealousy, it is now part of a themed set. There will a similar cover for Guilty Deceptions released with the launch of Dark Jealousy. I hope you all like it and I hope these are more appealing:
Now I'd like to hear from you. If you have a suggestion you'd like to see on the website or YouTube Channel, please feel free to let me know. I'd also like to know if you prefer blog updates or the Vlogs. What other content you'd like to see.
And what are you expecting to see in the next book?
Until Next Time,
D.C.
